FORENSIC PSYCHIATRY

Forensic Psychiatry is a subspecialty of Psychiatry that focuses on legal issues wherein mental health is a potential contributing factor.  Dr. Thompson is certified in Forensic Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has extensive experience consulting and providing opinions on psychiatric issues in legal contexts. As a forensic psychiatric expert, he works in an array of capacities with attorneys, courts, or other parties involved in actual or potential litigation, or in quasi-judicial settings. ETHICS IN FORENSIC PSYCHIATRY

As a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL), I follow the AAPL Ethical Guidelines for the Practice of Forensic Psychiatry. Furthermore, my opinions are based upon, in addition to my education, training, knowledge, and experience, the records and information with which I am provided.
I generally expect to receive any and all records, materials, and information that are relevant to the matter and the formulation of my opinions. If, however, after having formulated opinions,
I become aware of additional information from any source, I reserve the right to change my opinions based upon said additional information.
